James Tenhaeff

PEORIA - James Richard Tenhaeff of Boise, Idaho, a former Peoria area resident, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013.

He was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Quincy, Ill., to Runa Bacon Tenhaeff and Carl C. Tenhaeff.

He graduated from LaRose High School in LaRose, Ill., in 1942 and enlisted in the Navy serving four years, including two years in the South Pacific during World War II.

In 1949, he married Jeanne Irene Krull. They later divorced. In 1959, he enlisted in the Army and in 1961 married Merry Lee Black of Reno, Nev.

Mr. Tenhaeff was posted to DaNang, Vietnam, during the Vietnam War and received the Legion of Merit for outstanding service. He retired at the rank of master sergeant in 1979 and then worked for the city of Sierra Vista, Ariz., as an animal control officer until 1989.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wives.

Mr. Tenhaeff is survived by his sister, Marian Trythall of Portland, Ore.; his children, Steven (Elaine) Tenhaeff of Springfield, Ore., Linda (Greg) Vik of Eugene, Ore., and Susan (Michael) Smith of Boise, Idaho; as well as 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 10, at Central Lutheran Church in Eugene, Ore.
