Joe Archibald

WASHINGTON - Joe Archibald, 82, of Washington, Ill., died at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Washington Christian Village in Washington.

Born on March 9, 1931, in Centerville, Iowa, to Joseph and Nancy Johnson Archibald, he married Sandra D. Eggert on Jan. 28, 1956, in Centerville. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, David (Linda) Archibald of Lawrenceville, Ga., Steven (Amy) Archibald of Green Bay, Wis., and Sara (Patrick) Marsalek of Dublin, Ohio; four grandchildren, Taylor, Race, Delaney and Grace; and three brothers, Jim Archibald of Moline, Ill., Richard Archibald of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sidney Archibald of Tupelo, Miss.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Carter; and four brothers, Glen Archibald, Bert Archibald, Paul Archibald and Charles Archibald.

Joe was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War.

He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a foreman and retired in 1992.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9016 in Washington.

Joe also was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Kaufman Park in Eureka for many years, where he made a double eagle on the Par 5 No. 3 hole.

A memorial visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Illinois Cancer Care, 8940 N. Wood Sage Road, Peoria, IL 61615.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paul Fishkin and the staff of Illinois Cancer Care, Dr. Lee Kinsinger and his staff and the staff of Washington Christian Village for their outstanding care and support.
