LACON - John A. Billingsley, 73, of Lacon, formerly of Wheatland, Calif., died at his residence on March 30, 2014, at 12:18 p.m.
He was born in Joliet on Nov. 27, 1940, to the late Robert and Laverne Long Billingsley. Later, he married Bonnie Anderson on Aug. 4, 1962, in Lacon.
John spent his career in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator on board a B-52 in Vietnam and later as a reconnaissance officer on the SR-71 Blackbird. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal while serving his country.
In retirement, he belonged to the American Legion and the Military Officers Association of America.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, two sons, Jon (Teri) of Jacksonville, Fla. and Michael (Kerri) of Arlington, Texas; and a daughter, Kathryn (Ron) Burkhouse of Sacramento, Calif. John also has five grandchildren.
Services will be held for John at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon on April 12 at 11 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior to service. The Rev. Ross Wyman will officiate. Burial will be in the Lacon Cemetery.
