John Diggle

ROANOKE - John Henry Diggle, 85, of Roanoke, Ill., passed away at 2:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.

He was born on May 29, 1928, in Gridley, Ill., a son of Henry and Clarissa Benedict Diggle. He married Sarah Funk on June 18, 1950, in Gridley, Ill. She passed away on Feb. 6, 2004.

Surviving are five children, John (Kathy) Diggle II of Oswego, Ill., Jane Diggle of Roanoke, Ill., Debbie (Dave) Meiss of Gridley, Ill., Tammi (Gary) Leman of Roanoke, Ill., and Kathy (Andy) Pflederer of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Ed (Bee) Diggle of Metamora, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Ehresman; and one granddaughter.

John was an employee of Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1989.

He had served his country as a staff sergeant with the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

He was part of the Grace Presbyterian Church family in Peoria.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at the Eureka Bible Church. Andy Pflederer and Tom Swanson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Gridley Cemetery.
