NORTH PEKIN - John R. Lindstrom, 78, of North Pekin, formerly of Chillicothe, died on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Pekin Hospital.
John was born on Sept. 24, 1935, in Aurora, Ill., the son of Richard and Lorraine (Helms) Lindstrom. He married Martha White on Dec. 5, 1959, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1965.
John is survived by his daughter, Stacy L. (William) Turner, and their children, Billy and Jonathan, of North Pekin; his sisters and brother, Barbara (David) Neal of Plainfield, Jack (Barbara) Lindstrom of Sun City, Fla., and Cathy (Rich) Fitch of Spring Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
John, after graduating from high school, attended DeVry University in Chicago. He then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War, stationed with the 72nd Operations Squadron. He then opened and operated his own business for many years in the Chillicothe area known as Lindair Refrigeration Company. He then worked for COBatCo Inc., The Cone and Batter Company located in Peoria, for 12 years before retiring.
John was proud serving for this country in the Air Force. He joined the American Legion Post 9 and the Chillicothe AMVETS Post 77. He was very active in the AMVETS, serving as secretary/treasurer for many years and helping with many projects. Although he was not a member, he supported and helped the Chillicothe VFW Post 4999.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial, with military rites, will take place at the Chillicothe City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 9 in Chillicothe.
