TREMONT - Juanita C. Firth, 83, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Tremont, passed away at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny.
She was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Mount Vernon, Ill., to J.O. and Thelma Campbell. She married Jay Firth in Champaign, Ill., while both were in school.
Surviving are her husband, Jay Firth of Ankeny, Iowa; one son, Grant (Birgit) Firth, and one grandson, Jordon, all of Absnsburg, Germany; and one brother, Ray (Treva) Campbell of Houston, Texas.
She attended schools in Mount Vernon and the University of Illinois, where she earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in counseling and guidance. She taught school in Streator and Champaign.
Juanita was an accomplished horse woman. She raised, trained and showed American Saddlebred horses throughout the Midwest for over 40 years.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Davis Mortuary in Tremont. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery in Green Valley.
