TREMONT - Kenneth C. Johnson, 82, of Tremont passed away at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Proctor in Peoria.
He was born Aug. 10, 1931, in St. Paul, Minn., to Gunard and Irma Bale Johnson. He married Louise Johansen on Nov. 25, 1959, in Pensacola, Fla., and she passed away May 24, 2010.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce (Janet) Johnson of Morton and Brian (Heather) Johnson of Elora, Tenn.; two daughters, Karen (John) Higgins of Chesapeake, Va., and Lori (Shane) Ravellette of Dalton City; 11 grandchildren, Hope and Grace Johnson, Erik and Erin Higgins, Lizzie, Hattie and Lucy Johnson, Ben and Alex Ravellette, and Rachel and Hannah Miller; one brother, Richard (Betty) Johansen of White Bear Lake, Minn.; and one sister, Judy (Richard) Hall of White Bear Lake, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Sandra; and four brothers.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Ken graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked in the chemical manufacturing industry for 38 years and for the last 25 years at Sherex-Witco in Mapleton as plant manager.
He enjoyed dairy farming for 13 years, big band music, going to live bands, gardening and was involved with political issues.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Minier, where his funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014. Pastor Frank Zimmerman will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Davis Mortuary in Tremont and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery in rural Tremont.
