PEKIN - Ira Lee Clemons, 77, of Pekin passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at his residence.
Born July 19, 1935, in McAlpin, W.Va., to Pete and Bessie (Gibson) Clemons, he married Barbara Lee Oates on Feb. 21, 1955, in Enid, Okla. She passed away Feb. 24, 2013, in Pekin.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Clemons Norris; and 10 brothers and sisters. One son, Allen Scott Clemons, also passed away Feb. 24, 2013.
Surviving are one daughter, Janet Gamba of Pekin; six grandchildren, Mellissa Clemons of Peoria, Andrew Easden of Pekin, Corey Clemons of East Peoria, Taylor Norris of Albuquerque, N.M., Ryan (Kayla) Clemons of Bloomington, Ind., and Brandon Clemons of East Peoria; four great-grandchildren, Kelsie Clemons, Corissa Clemons, Jaedon Clemons and Elygah Clemons; one brother, Carl Clemons of Ohio; and one sister, Doris Hall of Beckley, W.Va.
A United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Lee was a member of Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 in Pekin.
Lee worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 32 years as an industrial train driver, retiring in May 1995.
He enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting. An avid animal lover, he leaves behind his beloved dog, Maggie May.
He and his wife attended Normandale Reformed Church in Pekin and also had a special fondness for the South Side Mission in Peoria.
His memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. David Craig will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial of his cremated remains will follow the service in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Air Force and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
