Lessie Atwood

CREVE COEUR - Lessie Lee Lutrell Atwood, age 73, a former longtime resident of Creve Coeur, Ill., passed away and left us Saturday morning, Dec. 3, 2011, to embark upon her journey to Heaven.

A current resident of Saraland, Ala., Lessie passed away on Dec. 3, 2011, in Hendersonville, Tenn., after a battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 16, 1938, in Madison County, Tenn., to the late Chaffee and Ruby (King) Lutrell.

A licensed beautician, Lessie later obtained a machinist degree from Caterpillar Tractor Company, from which she retired in the fall of 2000 after 20-plus years of service.

For 48 years, Lessie loved Herbert E. Atwood, united in matrimony on June 4, 1955, in Corinth, Miss.

Surviving are two sons, Tim (Roxane) Atwood of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Mark (Sandy) Atwood of LaVergne, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Tristan (Emmy), Torre (Britt), Rusty and Erica; as well as four great-grandchildren, Hannah, 9, Dilaina,7, Shiah, 4, and Tristyn,1. She is survived by one sister, Dovie McMinn of Milan, Tenn.; two brothers, James (Margaret) Lutrell of Jackson, Tenn., and David Lutrell of Moss Point, Miss.; three half brothers, Donnie (Elaine) Brasher of East Peoria, Ill., Joey (Verba) Brasher of East Peoria, Ill., and Jackie Brasher of Creve Coeur, Ill. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Lessie was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert E. Atwood, on Nov. 13, 2003, in Saraland Ala., who was also a former resident of Creve Couer, Ill.

Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, Ala., preceded by a visitation at the funeral home from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saraland, Ala., immediately following.
