Lester Aberle

MORTON - Lester E. "Munz" Aberle, 92, of Morton passed away at 10:35 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

He was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Morton to Edward and Lena (Behrends) Aberle. He married Dorothy Baer on Nov. 12, 1944, in Washington. She preceded him in death on June 2, 1998.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elvina Guengerich.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Ziegele of Morton and Carla Pierce of East Peoria; one son, Jerry Dean (Karen) Aberle of Gorham, Maine; five grandchildren, Eric Ziegele, Amanda (Jason) Pierce, Luke Aberle, Crystal (Dusten) Clark and Ashley Heck; three great-grandchildren, Austen, Peyton and Breanna Clark; one sister, Ethel Finley of Goodfield; and one brother, Ronald (Rozanne) Aberle of Morton.

He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran, serving from 1942 to 1945 in California, Ohio and Hawaii.

Lester was employed at Caterpillar Inc. for 42 years, retiring in 1982 as a material and product parts planner in Mossville.

He was a member of American Legion Post 318, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5921 and Kennel Lake Sportsman's Club, all in Morton, and the Travelers Protective Association.

He attended Trinity Church in Morton.

Lester was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Trinity Church in Morton, with Pastor Harry Ellison officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton, where full military services will be conducted by the Tazewell Military Rites Team.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 318 or VFW Post 5921, both in Morton.
