PEKIN - Emanuel Earl "Manny" Kester, 83, of Pekin passed away at 2:48 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at his home.
Born on Aug. 16, 1929, in Fairbury, Neb., to Emanuel and Alice L. (Unterberger) Davis, he married Barbara Allen Beever on Nov. 21, 1969, in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Stanley Joseph (Denice) Kester of Bartonville, James Steven Kester of Castle Rock, Colo., and Michael Scott (Michele) Kester of Portage, Mich.; one daughter, Sharon Denise (Dan) Shannon of Peoria; one stepson, N.W. "Mike" (Sue) Dever of Mapleton; three stepdaughters, Christine Skelton of Adrian, North Dakota, Susan Wilson Dever of Canton, and Julie (David) Atchison of Ozark, Missouri; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna (Al) Ray of Albertville, Ala., and Leah Jo (Earl) McGee of Quail Valley, Cali.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Donald Kester; stepmother, Emma Davis; one stepson, Patrick Dever; two granddaughters, Jill and Sally Wilson; one grandson, Adrian Skelton, and two great-grandsons.
Manny served in the United States Army. Stationed in Germany, he served as a medic during the Korean War.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. in the warranty claims department for 42 years before retiring in 1990.
Manny was a member of the Pekin First Church of the Nazarene, where he worked as custodian from 1990 to present. He also had served his church as a Sunday school teacher, board member, and usher.
Visitation will be held tonight, Nov. 9, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. His funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Lloyd Brock and the Rev. Scott Sherwood will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
