PEORIA - Margaret Jents Eckley, 95, of Peoria passed away at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Apostolic Christian Skylines.
Margaret was born June 28, 1918, in Peoria to Frank and Mary Jents. She married Eugene E. Eckley on Aug. 22, 1942. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1978.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas E. Eckley; one daughter, Rosalie A. Wantz; and one sister, Mary Catherine Jents.
She is survived by two daughters, Suzann Wilson of Peoria and Kathleen Wallinger of Pekin; two grandchildren, Sarah and Maegan; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Mae Callery of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret worked for Carson Pirie Scott for 20 years, until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, where her strong faith guided her through life.
Margaret was a loving, caring mother and her home was always open to family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, bowling and was very civic minded.
Margaret was the past president and secretary of St. Bernard's Mother's Club, Peoria County Democrat Women's Club, the Leatherneck Marine Corps Auxiliary and Peoria Memorial Association. She was also the past president and treasurer for the Marine Corps League Auxiliary.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Father Martin Mwongyera will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. A private entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum, following the Mass.
