Marvin Clatt

peoria - Marvin E. Clatt, 89, of Peoria passed away at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Apostolic Christian Skylines.

Marvin was born on May 19, 1924, in Dallas, Iowa, to Kenneth and Amy Lois (Bachman) Clatt. He married Dena H. Feucht on July 5, 1947, at First Federated Church in Downtown Peoria. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2008.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and son, Kevin T. Clatt.

He is survived by one son, Steven (Barbara) Clatt of Peoria; one daughter, Camille (Dan) Weisbruch of Peoria; five grandchildren, Steven N. (Elexis) Clatt and Kenneth A. (Billy Jo) Clatt, both of South Carolina, and Carin, Christina and Eric Weisbruch of Peoria; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jamie, both of South Carolina.

Marvin was a member of East Peoria High School's class of 1941. He also attended Purdue University in Indiana, and graduated from the University of Illinois School of Commerce. He was honorably discharged in September 1946 from the United States Marine Corps as a second lieutenant, serving in the South Pacific and China during World War II. He remained a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2602 and 2078.

He was employed 14 years for Brewers Distributing Co. in Peoria. He was the owner of Knoxville Avenue Laundromat in the 1950s, and was co-owner of Pekin Distributing Co. with his dear friend, Paul K. Koch, for 16 years. After retirement, he was an insurance agent for Physician's Mutual Insurance Co., and sold advertising novelties for Perfect Promotion.

In 1997, Marvin was inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame for playing football at East Peoria High School in 1938.

He attended Peoria Apostolic Christian Church.

The family expresses a special heartfelt thank you to the VA, Apostolic Christian Skylines, Dr. Barry Miller, and Dr. Sharon Lee for the many years of exceptional, compassionate care given to our wonderful parents.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, also at the mortuary. A graveside service will be immediately following the visitation at the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, with church ministers officiating.
