Max Morse

ELMWOOD - Max E. Morse, 89, of Elmwood died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at the British Home in Brookfield.

He was born on July 23, 1924, in Davis County, Iowa, to Julius Fredrick and Edith Reta (Rhodes) Morse. He married Patricia M. Marston on June 20, 1953, in Princeton, Ill. She preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 2008.

Surviving are four children, Mark Morse of Hendersonville, N.C., Fred (Dawn) Morse of Oak Park, Jama (Jeff) Kriz of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Amy (Roger) Kepple of Elmwood; and 11 grandchildren, Amy, Stephen, Michelle, Benjamin, Nicholas, Zachary, Amanda, Elizabeth, Emma, Daniel and Samuel.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, H. Ward Morse, Wendell Morse and Rex Morse.

Max's life was filled with family, music and service. He was a teacher in the field of science at Yates City and Elmwood high schools.

He was a member and elder of Elmwood Presbyterian Church and served in the choir and was choir director.

Max was formerly the mayor of Elmwood and was a 33rd degree Mason, belonging to Horeb Lodge, AF&AM, in Elmwood. He was a member of the Pekin Barbershoppers and Elmwood Municipal Band and was an EMT for BYE Ambulance.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Soldiers Medal of Valor. He also was a member and former commander of the Elmwood VFW.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Elmwood Presbyterian Church, where visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and also one hour prior to services on Tuesday. The Rev. Marla Bauler will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Elmwood Township Cemetery. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood is in charge of arrangements.
