WASHINGTON - Norman Harrold, 92, of Washington, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Manor Care at Riverview, East Peoria.
Norm was born April 27, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., to Henry M. and Grace D. Turner Harrold. He married Hazel Scherler on June 28, 1952, in Fort Wayne, Ind. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel, and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Norm was a 1940 graduate of Peoria High School. He attended the University of Illinois on a swimming and diving scholarship, where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the merchant marine during World War II. During his professional career, Norman was a manufacturer's account representative for industrial sales of ball bearing products.
Norman and his wife were residents of Milwaukee, Wis., until their retirement. In retirement, they resided in Bradenton, Fla. They traveled extensively and enjoyed living in their dream waterfront home. In 2012, Norman and Hazel returned to Illinois to be close to family, and resided at Riverview Retirement Community, East Peoria.
Cremation rites are being accorded by Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory, Washington. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
