Peter Ferro Sr.

ST. DAVID - Peter Ferro Sr., 94, of St. David died at 6:46 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center emergency room in Peoria.

He was born on Dec. 28, 1919, in St. David to Pietro and Felicina (Donna) Ferro. He was proud to marry Mary Ann Mortenson in Galesburg on June 23, 1946. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2014, after 67 years of marriage.

Survivors include two children, Donna (Tom) Stoner of Canton and Peter (Vicki) Ferro of Morton; five grandchildren, Tommy (Holly) Stoner, Peter Stoner, Michael (Heather) Ferro, Rebecca (John) Daugherty and Annie Ferro; and four great-grandchildren, Sophia Kate Stoner, Benjamin Ferro, Connor Daugherty and Ian Daugherty.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Michael Stoner; two brothers, Steve Ferro and Dominic Ferro; and two sisters, Frances Buyan and Millie Prina.

Peter was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. David.

He retired from International Harvester Company after 35 years of service as an inspector.

He was a proud World War II Army Air Corps veteran, being assigned to the Assan Valley in India as part of the Burma-India campaign. He was a member of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association, VFW Post 1984 in Canton and American Legion Post 16 in Canton.

He was devoted and immensely proud of his family and his yard and home, in which he was born, raised and lived his entire life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, in particular trap shooting with his buddies at Jacob's Field.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. David, where visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial, with military honors, will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Jacob's Field.
