Robert Blackwell

EAST PEORIA - Robert M. Blackwell Jr., 64, of East Peoria passed away at 11:23 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at his residence.
Born Sept. 21, 1949, in Louisiana, Mo., to Robert Merle and Doris LoVonne (Billings) Blackwell Sr., he married Judith Louise Morger on June 12, 1981, in East Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Nathan (Rachel) Blackwell of Peoria and Daniel (Betty Jean Emily) Blackwell of Washington; one daughter, Betty Jean Kathleen Blackwell of East Peoria; five grandchildren; his father of Havana; one brother, Rodney Blackwell of Forest City; and one sister, Michelle (Duane) Battey of Forest City.
He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers, Nick Blackwell and Scott Blackwell.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, stationed in South Korea. He later served in the Illinois Air National Guard in Peoria.
Robert worked for Caterpillar Inc. as an electrician for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He then worked for ATS, in information technology, until 2009.
He was a member of Victorious Life Evangelical Bible Church in East Peoria and began attending Bible classes taught by Mrs. Betty Jean Nutter in 1979. Through Mrs. Nutter's Bible lessons, he found the victory in Jesus Christ and his life changed for the glory of God. He was faithful and diligent in working on the Worldwide Victorious Life Bible Tape Ministry and faithfully served the Lord, even through his illness, these last several years. He loved our Lord Jesus; Mrs. Nutter, our dear Bible teacher; and Pastor James Schoonover, his friend and brother in Christ.
His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor James W. Schoonover will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Victorious Life Bible Church Cemetery in East Peoria.
