METAMORA - Shirley Hauter, age 81, of Metamora, Ill., passed away at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at her residence.
She was born in Kewanee, Ill., on June 15, 1932, a daughter of John and Ida (Schreiber) Burnett.
She graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in 1953 and spent many years serving her profession including, 24 years at Central Illinois Dermatology.
She married James W. Hauter on April 17, 1955, in Cambridge, Ill., and he survives with the following children, Joseph E. (Jane) Hauter of Metamora, Lynne (Gregory) Johnson of Richardton, N.D., and Jennifer (David) Poling of Metamora. One brother, Duane (Shirley) Burnett of Geneseo, Ill., also survives. She also leaves behind her "special gifts from God," as she called her grandchildren. They were the joy of her life. They are Darren Johnson of Madison, Wis., Bethany Hauter of Joliet, Ill., Kristen Johnson of Richardton, N.D., and Brooke Poling and Ben Poling of Metamora.
Shirley was a member of Dayton Avenue Baptist Church in Peoria. Shirley loved all children and was active in the children's ministry of both her church and the Metro-Peoria Baptist Association.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Dayton Avenue Baptist Church in Peoria, with Pastor Sunny Mooney and Dr. Joe Gardner officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel and also one hour prior to services at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded after services, with burial of ashes at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dayton Avenue Baptist Church Children's Department and Metro-Peoria Baptist Association Children's Camp.
