GROVELAND - Stephen E. Collins, 44, of Groveland passed away at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born July 25, 1969, in Alexandria, La., to Donald R. and Renate (Schwabe) Collins. He married Heidi L. Puzich on June 29, 1997, in Morton.
Surviving are his wife, Heidi Collins of Groveland; one son, Zachary S. Collins of Groveland; one daughter, Alexis R. Collins of Groveland; and four brothers, Donald (Cindy) Collins of Hanna City, Michael (Tanya) Collins of Gurnee, Ill., Aaron (Kristen) Collins of Hanna City and Jacob (Heather) Collins of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Stephen was employed as a correctional officer with the Peoria Adult Transition Center.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton, where he served as a Sunday school teacher.
He was a former member of the Bethel Lutheran School Board.
He was a former union representative with the AFSCME International.
Stephen enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton, with the Rev. Jeff Anderson and the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday, both at Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton. Military honors will be conducted following the service at the church.
Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
