PEORIA - Stuart "Mac" McLaren, 94, of Johnstown, Colo., passed away on April 22, 2013, at the home of his daughter after a brief illness.
He was born in Canton, Ill., to Donald and Ella McLaren. He graduated from Woodruff High School in 1938 and lived most of his life in Peoria. He worked for the Chevrolet dealership as assistant parts manager until he retired.
He was an avid golfer and relocated to Colorado 30 years ago with his wife to be near their children. He loved living in Colorado, especially the view of Longs Peak and the rest of the Rockies that he could see from their home.
Mac served in the Coast Guard during World War II, rising to the rank of lieutenant junior grade, and was assigned as engineering officer on an LCI in the South Pacific.
He is survived by his children, Tim (Penny) of Vancouver, Wash., and Cindy (Jim) Lauffenberger of Berthoud, Colo.
He was preceded in death in 2008 by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy (who he met while delivering the Peoria Journal Star); his parents; siblings; and two nephews. Mac was the last of his generation that he knew.
