Valorie Alton

PEORIA - Valorie J. Alton, 62, of Peoria passed away at 8:47 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Valorie was born Feb. 14, 1950, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Evelyn (Glore) White. She married Vernon Bennett. She later married Larry Alton.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry and Michelle Bennett, both of Peoria; one sister, Thelma Alberts of Glasford; and three grandchildren, Chandler Stewart, Bryson Bennett and Mia Worley.

Valorie was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Christopher Alton.

She worked as a custodian at the former First Presbyterian Church from January of 1985 through June of 2004. She then worked at the United Presbyterian Church until her retirement in 2006.

All who knew Valorie would say that she loved her family and was a mother to anyone who needed one. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and loved her two dogs, Max and Missy.

Valorie was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church. Father Terry Cassidy will officiate. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Lutheran Cemetery.
