glasford - Violet Marie Coats, 83, of Glasford, Ill., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Bel-Wood Nursing Home in Peoria.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1929, in Washington, Ill. She was the daughter of Clyle and Dorothy (Adams) Gresham. She married Chester Guy Coats on May 8, 1948, in Glasford, Ill. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1986, in Peoria, Ill.
She was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Violet is survived by two children, G. Michael (Jill) Coats and G. Michelle Merritt, both of Glasford, Ill.; five grandchildren, Christopher (Denise) Coats of Pekin, Ill., Kelli Coats of Bartonville, Ill., Chelsea, Quincy, and Chet Merritt, all of Glasford, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Brandon Coats, both of Pekin, Ill.; and one brother, Albert (Joan) Gresham of New Port Richey, Fla.
She worked as a style consultant at the J.C. Penney store in Pekin, Ill., for several years, and she and her husband owned and operated the Rainbow Cafe in Glasford. Violet volunteered many hours at the Pekin Hospital and was a member of the Glasford Baptist Church, where she was a past Sunday school teacher and junior choir director.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at the Glasford Baptist Church. The Revs. Paul Cook and Chris Jordan will officiate. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are by the Davison Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Glasford, Ill. Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery.
