EAST PEORIA - Wallace "Wally" R. Jaquet, 90, of East Peoria died at 12:02 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
He was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Williamsfield to Floyd and Elsie Stodgel Jaquet. He married Dona Mae Evans on March 29, 1946, in Washington. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2012.
Surviving are his two children, Thomas Jaquet and Debra (Larry) Scharp, all of Bartonville; one sister, Doris Curry of Davenport, Iowa; one brother, Max Jaquet of Chillicothe; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating high school, Wally attended Bradley University in Peoria for two years, where he was enrolled in engineering courses. He began working for Caterpillar as a foreman around 1945 and retired from there in 1985.
He was a member of the East Peoria Optimist Club, East Peoria Planning Commission, Caterpillar Stamp Club and the Tri-County Stamp Club. Wally was East Peoria's Man of the Year award winner in 1997 and was a master float builder for the East Peoria Festival of Lights, having helped with the building of floats since the first parade.
There will be a funeral service for Wally on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Pastor Howard Love will officiate. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
