Walter Brockman

PEORIA - Walter E. Brockman, 76, of Peoria passed away Friday, April 12, 2013, at 5:43 a.m. at the Heartland Health Care Center in Peoria.

He was born Dec. 2, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., to George and Charlotte Brockman.

Walter joined the United States Army in 1960. He soon married Gwendolyn Bradford.

He is survived by his loving wife in Chicago; four daughters, Margie Sanders, Julie (Raphael) Miles, Latice Porter, and Gena Bradford, all of Chicago; two sons, David Bradford of Chicago and Walter (Demona) Bradford of Peoria; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, George Brockman, Donald Brockman, and Norman Littlejohn; one sister, Connise Brockman; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Walter was a bus operator for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and a driver for United Parcel Service (UPS).

He retired and moved to Peoria in 1999 to grow old gracefully with his son and his grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago, Ill., on Thursday, April 18, 2013. Leak & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Burial was in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.
