ASTORIA - Whitney Lane, age 19, of Astoria passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013, as a result of an auto accident west of Lewistown, Ill.
She was born on April 21, 1993, in Peoria, a daughter of Jenniffer Lane and Larry Smith.
She attended Spoon River College and worked for Seward Stables in Havana and was currently working in security for ABM at Excel in Beards-town, Ill.
Whitney was a Girl Scout in Fulton and Mason counties for nine years and was a 4-H member in Fulton County. Her passion was animals, dancing and music.
She is survived by her parents of Astoria; three brothers, Austin Smith of Rushville, Ill., and Jacob and Eli Mann of Astoria; her sister, Trinity Smith of Astoria; grandparents, Charles and Connie Selby of Havana, Ill., and Karen Taylor of Rushville; and her great-grandmothers, Shirley Cogar of Havana and Florence Taylor of Macomb, Ill.
Whitney was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Harold Lane Sr. and Dennis "Doc" Taylor.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. The Rev. Ann Windsor will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Bluff City Cemetery in Browning, Ill.
