William Kellogg

LAURA - William H. Kellogg, 87, of rural Laura died at 10:34 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Cornerstone Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Peoria Heights.

William was born Oct. 5, 1925, in rural Laura, Ill., the son of Samuel A. and Ella B. Oakes Kellogg. He married Lois Zimmerman on Dec. 27, 1951, in Syracuse, Ind. She died in October of 1982. He then married Judy Baum in 1990 in Williamsfield. She survives.

Also surviving are their six children, Susan (Dave) Pacheaco of Dubuque, Iowa, Collin (Alicia) Cleer of Gray Court, S.C., Tanya Bycroft of Elmwood, Ill., Brendon (Brenda) Cleer of Knoxville, Tenn., Tristan (Michelle) Cleer of Lewistown, Ill., and Jeana Klenc of St. Peters, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; and three sisters, Robah Kellogg and Gertrude Gammon, both of Peoria, and Dorothy Bentsen of Wheaton, Ill.

William graduated from Princeville High School and the University of Illinois College of Agriculture. He also attended Fort Wayne Bible College.

For nearly all his life, he was a member of Laura United Methodist Church in Laura, Ill., where at various times he served as choir director, Sunday school teacher and superintendent and chairman of the Administrative Board. He loved music and singing. He was also a lay speaker, serving in that capacity at various churches in the surrounding area. He was a member of Millbrook School Board, serving several years as president. He served as township committeeman on the ASC Board and was a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau for several years. He was a 4-H leader, and in 2004 was awarded the Peoria County Farm Bureau Ag-Service Award.

William was a lifetime livestock and grain farmer who enjoyed having young students working with him on the farm. He also loved the many visits from his grandchildren as they followed him around doing chores and exploring the farm.

The family of William Kellogg would like to publicly thank OSF Hospice for outstanding love and care they have shown both Bill and me the past 2 1/2 years, as well as OSF Care Center in Peoria Heights for added love and care the past five weeks. Also our many friends and family who have supported us with love and care during these last difficult years. We have been truly blessed.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home in Princeville. Jared Jenkins will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home. Burial will be in French Grove Cemetery in rural Elmwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to OSF Hospice Care in Peoria, Ill., or Laura United Methodist Church in Laura, Ill.
