MORTON - William R. Vetter, 94, of Morton died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at his home.
He was born June 12, 1919, in Colfax, Ill., to Frank A. and S. Leona (Steele) Vetter. He married Suzanne K. Barnard on May 31, 1947, in East Peoria.
Surviving are his wife, Suzanne Vetter of Morton; one son, Mike (Carole) Vetter of Springfield, Ill.; one daughter, Pam (Dave) Schurter of Morton; five grandchildren, Tim (Kathi) Vetter, Carrie Hyun, Mark, Luke (Susi) and Dawn Schurter; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson-in-law, Sam Hyun; three brothers; and four sisters.
William served as a Motor Machinist Mate 2nd Class with the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
He worked as a machine design checker for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria for 47 years, retiring in 1982.
William was a member of Grace Church in Morton and Christian Stewards. He also worked at Miracle Camp, doing maintenance work.
He was an avid golfer.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at Grace Church in Morton, with Pastor Doug Habegger and Pastor Tim Bertsche officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
