Odell Wright

EAST PEORIA - Odell Wright, 87, of East Peoria, formerly of Pekin, died at 4:47 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at his home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1924, in Monroe City, Ind., to Isaac and Mary (Sherman) Wright.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Hughey) Wright of East Peoria; two sons, Leslie (Penny) Wright of Washington and Roger (Nancy) Wright of East Peoria; one daughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Sohn of East Peoria; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norma LaVone Anderson of Petersburg, Ind.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; three brothers; and two sisters.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Odell was employed with Caterpillar Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 1985 as a time study analyst.

A special time in Odell's life was holding his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and singing the song, "You Are My Sunshine."

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with Pastor David Troyer officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where full military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
