Gerald Hall Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" E. Hall
PEKIN - Gerald E. "Jerry" Hall, 83, of Pekin passed away at 5:29 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
He was born on July 8, 1934, in Pekin to Fred and Olladean (Harwick) Hall. He married Vinetta Tipton on April 25, 1954, in Pekin. She survives.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Annabeth Curry.
He is survived by his wife, Vinetta; three sons, Glenn (Mary) Hall of Salem, MO, and Vance Hall and Jay (Donna) Hall, both of Pekin; one daughter, Dianne (Mike) Shrier of Carlock, IL; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty six great-grandchildren.
Jerry graduated from Pekin High School and Eureka College. He served the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After the Army, Jerry worked for his dad at the family-owned Hall's Market until until Jerry started his own store, which he sold in 1967. He then began selling seasonings for other companies to the meat industry. In 1986, he opened his own company, Excalibur Seasoning, in Pekin. He had three successful books published for the meat industry.
He was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Pekin. He taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a former Chairman of the Church Board. He was a member of Rotary and received the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition. Jerry was a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He was a Past Grand Marshall of the Marigold parade and donated spices and seasoning to the Pekin Rotary Club for their Marigold Booth. He enjoyed golf immensely and spent as much time as he could on the course. Jerry was known for his generosity. He felt it was his mission to help any and all that he could. His greatest treasure was his family and spending time with them.
Jerry's funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at First Christian Church, 1201 Chestnut St., Pekin, IL, with the Rev. Hank Anderson officiating. A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 13, from 4 to 8 p.m., also at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Rotary International.

What will I miss most about Grandpa? His laugh, he was always up to some form of shenanigan, my favorite was joining him, and not being his target, though we got each other a lot. I was known for sneaking into his special candies and leaving him two :) Even more than that, I will miss his love, he had the biggest heart, if there was anything he could do to spare me from this harsh world, he did it, he was my rock and soft place to land as well as grandma. They've always been there for me through thick and thin, I am so blessed the universe conspired to place me into their loving arms, I am who I am today because of their love. All eight of the great grandchildren I gave them, he loved through and through, and he opened his big heart even more to love them the way he always loved me. Until we meet again grandpa... <3
