WASHINGTON - Shirley J. Smucker, 78, of Washington, Ill., died on Friday, March 15, 2013, at 6:15 p.m. at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz.
Born June 29, 1934, in Hillsboro, Ill., to Geno J. and Mary F. Govaia Reck, she married Clayton W. Smucker on Jan. 30, 1954, in Peoria.
He survives along with two sons, Jay Smucker of Washington and Jeff (Stephanie) Smucker of Groveland; three grandchildren, Nigel, Hannah, and Justin Smucker; two brothers, Tony (Farideh) Reck of Paducah, Ky., and Joe (Patty) Reck of Edwards; and two sisters, Terre Reck (Mike) Whitmer of Gridley and Carole Reck (Roger) Hoffman of Peoria. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Shirley was an office manager for 20 years at Waste Management in East Peoria.
She was an avid reader, loved to travel and play golf and enjoyed watching her grandchildren play in sporting events.
A funeral eulogy will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary.
Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary, and a half hour prior to the eulogy on Saturday. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of cremains will be at a later date.
