EAST PEORIA - Adolph E. "Rudy" Dohm, 96, of East Peoria died at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Manorcare at Riverview in East Peoria.
He was born on June 17, 1917, in Platte Center, Neb., to Arnold and Lucille Laudenklaus Dohm. He married Mary Kyzer in December of 1945 in Columbia, S.C. She preceded him in death in September of 1949. He then married Frances "Louise" Watkins on Dec. 7, 1953. She preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 1994, in East Peoria.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, one brother and two great-grandchildren.
Rudy is survived by one daughter, Betty (Leo) Geier of East Peoria; and one son, John Dohm of East Peoria; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two nephews.
Rudy served his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He then worked for NE Finch Trucking in East Peoria for 39 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a hardworking man who loved his job. He was also a member of Teamster Local #627 and a lifelong member of American Legion Post 2, where he was active in the 40 & 8 Color Guard.
He was also a member of First English Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Rudy was a dog lover and enjoyed the time he spent with his family.
There will be a funeral service for Rudy on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Pastor James Lillie will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. Military rites will be conducted by both active duty Army soldiers and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
