GALESBURG - Alexander L. Van Meter, 22, of Galesburg, formerly of Herscher, Ill., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, in Ada County, Idaho.
Alexander was born on Nov. 2, 1991, in Peoria, the son of Roy and Sherry LaPayne Van Meter.
Surviving are his parents of Galesburg, Ill.; one brother, Nicholas Van Meter of Decatur, Ill.; and grandfather, Elwyn (Elsa) Van Meter of Hardy, Ark. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ruth Lingner; and grandparents, Jack and Connie LaPayne.
Alexander graduated from Herscher High School in 2010.
He worked for Lee's Lawn Care and Casey's, while attending Kankakee Community College, studying Biomedical Engineering.
Alexander enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 19, 2013, where he graduated from Basic Training on May 17, 2013.
Alexander was a hockey player, where he was a goalie. He was an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan and always made sure that his work schedule was not conflicting with the Blackhawks games.
He enjoyed being with friends and playing video games and had a reputation for eating cookies. Alex had compassion and love for others.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Wyoming. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery in Wyoming, Ill.
