Cleone Schliepsiek Obituary

PEORIA - Cleone B. Schliepsiek, 93, of Anthem, Ariz., formerly of Peoria and Sun City Center, Fla., died Monday, March 10, 2014, in Anthem, Ariz.

She was born on May 31, 1920, in Farnhamville, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Elsie (Saucke) Horecka. Cleone married the Rev. Karl R. Schliepsiek on Aug. 10, 1941, in Hubbard, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1999, in Sun City Center, Fla.

She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Aaron Thomas Schliepsiek and Andrew (Jamie) Schliepsiek.

She is survived by three children, the Rev. Richard Stephen (Lois) Schliepsiek of Prescott, Ariz., Mary Kathryn (Eugene) Phillips of Anthem, Ariz., and David Thomas (Sue) Schliepsiek of Peoria, Ill. She has six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and is also survived by one brother, Glenn F. Horecka of Sarasota, Fla.

Cleone was a 1941 graduate of Iowa State University and was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church of Peoria, sang in various church choirs and enjoyed music and played bridge.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 21, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. Karl Eckhoff will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until time of services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hillside Village or the Andy and Jaime Schliepsiek Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the Community Foundation of Peoria.
