EAST PEORIA - Donald Max Cox, 81, of East Peoria passed away at 5:14 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria.

Don was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Havana to Lloyd and Artha Smith Cox. He married Dorothy Marie Allison on Aug. 25, 1951, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Danny Cox of Spring Bay; grandchildren, Tecoa, Daniel, Baylee and Jensen; great-grandchildren, Josten, Hunter, Addison and Aydin; and a sister, Marilyn I. McGinnis of Necedah, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin E. Graham and Jesse Wayne Cox; sister, Carolyn E. Harms; two infant children; and one infant grandson.

Don was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 in Germany.

He was a life member of VFW Post 2078 in East Peoria.

He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1990, after 26 years of service.

Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Peoria for over 40 years and was an avid Cardinals fan.

He was active in fraternal organizations, including the Scottish Rite and York Rite of East Peoria, Mohammed Shrine of Bartonville, Order of the Eastern Star 1002 of East Peoria and the Abbas Grotto. He was especially committed to the Hilton Lodge 1143, AF & AM, of East Peoria. He was a life member and served as a past Master of the Lodge.

Don was a caring man, who was very devoted to his entire family.

Funeral services for Don will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at the funeral home. Masonic rites will conclude the visitation. The Rev. Joe Richard will officiate. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. The Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team will provide military honors.
