PEORIA - Doris Land Schoch Bachman, 94, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Liberty Village in Peoria.
She was born on February 1, 1924, in Enfield, Illinois, to Thomas and Martha (Land) Robley. They preceded her in death. She married Howard H. Schoch on May 16, 1942, in Peoria. He passed in 1988. She later married H. Clyde Bachman on July 21, 1990, in Culpeper, Virginia. He passed in 1995.
Also preceding her in death were her loving companion of several years, Bob Gish; her son, Tedd Schoch; step-son, Rodney Bachman; brother, John Robley; and three sisters, Sue Bosecker, Ann Woosley and Linda Lou Robley.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Schoch of Davenport, Iowa; one daughter, Martha Jan Hammer of Hanna City, Illinois; two sisters, Beth Ziegele of Irving, Texas, and Kay Fischer of Springfield, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Donnie Schoch, Tyson Schoch, Jason Schoch, Krystal DeLeon, Anthony Schoch, Lawrence T. Hammer, Allison Fornal, Andrew Hammer, Lindsay Howell, Jeremiah Schoch, Brittany Brodo and Alicia Briney; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris graduated from Manual High School in 1940. She worked for GMAC and the Rock Island Arsenal and was a homemaker and mother. She was a master seamstress, working for Schradski's Dress Shop and, later, Country Bride. After relocating to Roanoke, Virginia, with Howard, owned and operated Grandin Road Car Wash. She was a seamstress for John Norman Clothiers, also in Roanoke. After the death of her second husband, Clyde Bachman, she returned to her home town of Peoria, Illinois.
She was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Service Sorority and a member of the University United Methodist Church in Peoria. Doris was a special lady, loved by all who met her. She made sacrifices to help those who were in need. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018, from 4 to 6 p.m. at University United Methodist Church in Peoria. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 17, at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
