ADAIR - Dorothy Mae (Spencer) Bagley, 91, of Adair, Ill., passed away at 3:15 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.
She was born Sept. 17, 1921, in New Salem Township to Ernest John and Flora Mae Johnson Spencer. She married Charles Harold Bagley of Sciota, Ill., on April 10, 1943, at the Methodist Parsonage in Wayland, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2006.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Carol Smithson; two brothers, Leonard Dale and Delbert Wayne Spencer; and two sisters, Doris L. Trotter and Twyla Maxine Parkins.
She is survived by three sons, Harold Leon (Vickie) Bagley of Carbondale, Ill., Kenneth Merlin (Ida) Bagley of Flowery Branch, Ga., and Scott Ernest (Diane) Bagley of Adair, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Spencer (Linda) Smithson of Bettendorf, Iowa, Kari Elizabeth (Scott) Poby of California, Justin Snowden Bagley and Ethan Kyle Bagley, both of Adair, Ill., and Kristie Terry of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren, Grant and Elliott Smithson and Amelie Poby.
She attended EUB Church in Adair from childhood. She was a member of the Macomb Business and Professional Women's Club. She graduated from Liberty School of Beauty Culture in Peoria, Ill., after graduating from Adair High School in 1939.
She worked as a hairdresser in Aledo and Astoria before her marriage. She later worked at Union National Bank in Macomb as secretary in the Farm Management Department until her retirement in 1987.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Pennington Point Cemetery. The Rev. James Comstock will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Cremation has been accorded.
