PEORIA - Evelyn M. Bussone, 89, of Sycamore, the mother of a Peoria man, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5, 2013, at the Oakcrest Retirement Center in DeKalb, surrounded by her loving husband and dear friends.

She was born July 3, 1924, in Carlock, Ill., the daughter of George and Bernice (Stephens) Search. She married Joseph V. Bussone on April 1, 1950, in Peoria.

Evelyn graduated from the Mennonite School of Nursing in 1945. She worked as a registered nurse at various hospitals in four cities where her husband worked for the General Electric Company. Evelyn retired from the Sycamore Hospital after many years of dedicated service.

She was a faithful and active member of the Church of St. Mary in Sycamore, member of the Sycamore VFW Auxiliary, a 20-year consultant/volunteer for the DeKalb County Hospice, and served many years at the DeKalb County Nursing Home and the Pay It Forward House.

Evelyn was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan, who was delighted to go to Arizona with Joe and watch them during spring training.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph of Sycamore; one son, Paul (Sheila) Bussone of Peoria; one daughter, Susan (Steven) Ohde of Chetek, Wis.; five grandchildren, Mitch and Jared Bussone, Eric, Rachel and Alex Ohde; and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn loved spending time with her family and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow up.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Mark Joseph; and two sisters, Lucille and Mildred.

Her funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 244 Waterman, in Sycamore, with Father Paul Lipinski and Father Frank J. Timar, M.S.C. celebrating. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore, with a wake service being recited at 8:15 p.m.
