PEORIA - George L. Abraham, 82, of Peoria passed away at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1929, in Newark, N.J., a son of John J. and Sadie Peters Abraham. He married June Shay on July 25, 1953, in Akron, Ohio; she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Valerie (Frank) Starshak of Chicago, Karen (Lamar Harris) Lawson of Hanna City and Shellee Abraham of Peoria; one son, John Abraham of Peoria; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth and Megan Starshak, Charlie (Amie Preston) Lawson Jr., Jamie (Jerimy) Hanlin, Racheal, Hollie, Sean, Josh and Alyssa Abraham; four great-grandchildren, Kyler Lawson and Marisa, Jerimy and Morgan Hanlin; a sister, Evelyn (Harry) Borrowman of Peoria; and two brothers, Bernard Abraham of East Peoria and Bobby Abraham of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Stevenson.
George worked as a technician for Triangle Sales and Abraham Amusement Company.
He was an avid bowler, a Golden Gloves boxing champion and earned the honor of best dancer at Manual High School.
He was a member of St. Sharbel Church and its Men's Club, and the Itoo Club in Peoria.
George was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a very beloved husband.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at St. Sharbel Church, with the Rev. Bechara Awada officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at St. Sharbel Church, with a recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday.
Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
