PEKIN - George Fredrick Connett, 83, of Bluffton, S.C., formerly of Pekin, Ill., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Hilton Head Hospital in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
He was born on April 14, 1929, in Pekin, Ill., the son of the late Charles and Margret Hartwig Connett.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II.
He was a machinist for Mid-West Grain Co. in Pekin, Ill.
He loved fishing and hunting and was a Mason.
He is survived by his sons, Kenneth E. Connett (Nancy) of Bluffton, S.C., and George D. Connett of Cameron, Wis.; stepsons, Alan (Kathy) Garrison of Mackinaw, Ill., and David Garrison of East Peoria, Ill.; a brother, Ernest Connett of Bartonville, Ill.; and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Widby Connett, and his second wife, Mary Alice Garrison Connett; brother, Clifford Connett; sister, Vivian Duez; and aunt, Louise Hartwig Olson.
A visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A graveside service will be held immediately following the visitation at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, Ill., with Pastor Tom Meyers officiating.
