GROVELAND - Glen A. Bernath, 87, of Groveland passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Pekin Hospital.
He was born June 28, 1924, in Pekin to Adolph and Loma Wilson Bernath. He married Eileen Oberle on Oct. 28, 1950, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 1986. He later married Margaret "Marg" Oberle on Dec. 28, 1987, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2004.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Roger Allen Bernath; and six siblings.
He is survived by his sons, Richard (Delight) Bernath of Durand and Robert (Kathy Smith) Bernath of Groveland; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kimberly Lee) Bernath of Pekin, Haley (Roger) Ludolph of East Peoria, Stuart Bernath and April Bernath of Durand; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Megan, Christian, Austin and Mason.
Glen worked 45 years for Corn Products and Pekin Energy, retiring in 1987.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in the 509th Composite Group that flew the mission over Nagasaki that dropped the second atomic bomb and ended the war in 1945.
He was a member of the VFW and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, where a funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at 10 a.m. Msgr. Tim Nolan will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Abts Mortuary in Pekin.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in his name.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary in Pekin.
