Harry Daniel Obituary

PEORIA - Harry W. Daniel, 92, of Peoria passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice home of Peoria.

He was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Astoria, Ill., to Russell and Susan B. (Barrett) Daniel. Harry married Helen L. Adams on Dec. 30, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2010, in Peoria.

He is survived by his daughters, Judy Smith of Peoria, Nancy (Robert) Melton of Peoria and Cynthia Daniel of Speedway, Ind.; his grandchildren, Scott Smith, Kristina Mudrak, Kim Rocke, Jessica Daniel, Breanna Daniel, Nicholas Daniel and Abigail Daniel; his seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one sister, one brother, an infant brother and one son-in-law.

He served our country with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945, in which he received an American Defense Service Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, WWII Bronze Battle Stars, one Overseas Service Bar, one Service Stripe and a Good Conduct Medal.

Harry was an electrician by trade and owned Daniel Electric Company for 38 years. He was the president of the National Electrical Contractors Association for several years. Harry and Helen were the previous owners of the Book Nook.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at The Wilton Mortuary of Peoria, with Sister Jacqueline Schroe-der officiating. Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 4, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Cremation rites will be accorded at a later date, with inurnment of ashes in Resurrection Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
