PEORIA - Hazel Edna Geyer, 95, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria, Illinois.
She was born on August 22, 1922, in Oakville, Iowa, to Joseph and Edna (Fisher) Wiegand. She was married to Walter Geyer on August 18, 1946, in Oakville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 11, 2003, in Peoria, Illinois.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice Wuthrich and Elizabeth Grimm; and two brothers, Joseph and Ralph Wiegand.
She is survived by four children, Roger (Melanie) Geyer of Peoria, Illinois, Dale (Barb) Geyer of Peoria, Illinois, Walter (Bonnie) Geyer of Tremont, Illinois, and Karen (Rick) Kellenberger of Fort Scott, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren, Deanna Adjodha, Penny (Jay) Araujo, Jay (Christine) Geyer, Rachel (Mike) Soper, Daniel (Michelle) Geyer, Adam Geyer, Ben (Joanna) Geyer, Joe (Angela) Geyer, Sarah (Ben) Hawkins, Anne (Andy) Zell, John (Mindi) Geyer, Anthony Geyer, Robin (Justin) Moser, Kent (Kelsey) Kellenberger, Kristi (Trenton) Banwart, Amber (Ryan) Lewis and Ryan (Adrienne) Kellenberger; forty-nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She has three siblings living, Albert (Martha) Wiegand, Joan (late Edward) Lanz and Sharon (Irv) Hodel.
Hazel's entire life reflected her love for the Lord and her love of people. It was evident in the way she related to her customers when she worked over 40 years at Bergner's Department Store. She enjoyed sewing and was active for over 20 years in the World Relief Quilters Group, where over those years she designed and sewed over 5,000 comforter tops. She was a volunteer for the Berean Prison Ministries at the Peoria County Jail. She was noted for her homemade bread and chocolate cakes. Her hospitality was her hallmark to all who came to visit her in her home. She was an active member of the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 11, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church. The church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, near Edwards, Illinois.
