PEORIA—Helen M. Healy, 101, of Peoria, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Buehler Home in Peoria.
Born May 6, 1916, in Peoria, the daughter of William M. and Ethel K. (Hefele) Hammond.
Helen married Richard J. Healy March 3, 1946, in Peoria. He preceded her in death February 19, 1999 in Peoria.
Helen is survived by one son, Todd (Janet) Healy of Bartonville; step-grandchildren, Michael McKown, Mark (Brigitte) McKown, and step-great-granddaughter, Sophia McKown.
She was preceded in death by her one infant daughter, Lynn Healy, parents, brothers, John (Lucille) Hammond and Gilbert (Frances) Hammond, and step-grandson, Mitchell McKown.
Helen was a school teacher for District 150 and retired from the Bartonville Grade School after teaching for 37 years.
She obtained her associate degree from the Peoria Normal Training School and received her Bachelor of Education degree from Pestalozzi Froeble Teachers College in Chicago. She was a honorary member of the P.T.A. and the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers. She was a member of the Peoria Area Retired Teachers Association and Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
Helen was a member of the Peoria Women's Bowling Association, Peoria Women's Nine Hole Golf League, and Timber Lake Country Club. She was a member of the Delta Beta Phi Sorority (Beta Chapter).
Helen was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a deaconess and a member of the Miriam Circle.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria. The Reverend Denise Clark-Jones and The Rev. Anna Saxon will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services on Tuesday, December 5. Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
