Obituary Condolences

RUTLAND - John L. Glowacki, 81, of Rutland died at 12:03 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at his residence.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Minonk, with Fr. Luke Poczworowski OFM Conv., Fr. Neri Greskoviak OFM and Fr. Raymond Guthrie officiating. Burial will follow, with military rites, at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Minonk. Cremation rites were accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, both at the church.

Memorials may be made to Advocate BroMenn Hospice or to the family.

Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home in Toluca is assisting the family with arrangements.

John was born Nov. 3, 1931, in Minonk, the son of Leo John and Bertha Rutkowski Glowacki. He married Joyce A. Ekstrom on July 16, 1955, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Minonk. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Kevin (Joan) Glowacki and Mark Glowacki, both of Minonk, Kathy (Kentin) Knoblauch of Low Point and Mike (Susan) Glowacki of Fairbury; a brother, Jerry (Caroline) Glowacki of Minonk; a sister, Lucy Cummings of Minonk; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John enrolled in the St. Francis Seminary in Mount Healthy, Ohio, in 1946. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950. He retired in 1970, after serving 20 years, and was a Korean War veteran.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Minonk and the Rutland American Legion. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4007 in Toluca and 4th Degree member of the Streator Assembly 2109.
