John Piccatto Sr. Obituary

SPRING VALLEY - John T. Piccatto Sr., 72, of Spring Valley died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Pastor Mike Slutz will officiate. Burial will follow in Valley Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

John was born on Dec. 5, 1940, in Spring Valley to John B. and Orpha (Champley) Piccatto. He married Jane L. O'Neill on Aug. 29, 1980, in Bureau.

He was a graduate of Hall High School and L-P-O.

John retired from Illinois Power after 33 years, where he worked as a gas foreman. He also farmed his entire life.

John was a member of Seatonville Congregational Church-Independent. He was a member of the Ladd School Board for 36 years, currently serving as president. He was also a member of the Ladd Education Foundation Board and the Hall Education Foundation Board.

John was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Bradley Braves.

John is survived by his wife, Jane, of Spring Valley; three sons, John (Nancy) Piccatto Jr., Andy (Bev) Piccatto and Lee (Shari) Piccatto, all of Spring Valley; a daughter, Tracy (Ed) Helm of Spring Valley; nine grandchildren, Jacob, Colin, Landon, Lexi, Kristin, Justin and Brandi Piccatto and Kyle and Kasey Helm; two great-grandchildren, Zain and Zaleigh Piccatto; two sisters, Nancy (Jim) Starkey and Pat (Denny) Galetti, both of Seatonville; and many nieces and nephews.
