MORTON - John A. Thorp, 66, of Morton passed away at 3:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at his home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1948, in Weymouth, Mass., to Arthur and Frances (Cobb) Thorp. He married Laura Susina on Oct. 15, 1977, in Genoa, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Thorp of Morton; one son, David Thorp (fiancee, Kelli) of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and two sisters, Carol Thorp of Marshfield, Mass., and Jane Thorp of Weymouth, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He received his associates degree from Wentworth Institute in Boston, Mass., and his bachelor's and master's degrees from Bradley University in Peoria. While at Bradley, John was a member of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity.
An associate professor, John taught at Illinois Central College in the Department of Automotive and Diesel Technology for 38 years.
He coached youth hockey for many years and coached the Bradley University Hockey Team.
Cremation will be accorded. No services or visitation will be held.
Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling cremation arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since Jack passed. I know a lot of people think of him often including me. He was full of life and had a great sense of humor. I hope Jack, you are having a great time in Heaven. Love, Marsha

So sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a good friend to my mother and father who have also passed. Bud and John can be talking about all the cars now. I know ICC students learned everything they know from the fine teachers there.

Laura & David, My heart aches for your loss. John was larger than life in all aspects of his life "...and the thing is..." those of us who worked with him for years at ICC will miss him terribly. He was a great guy and a good friend and he touched a lot of lives. John, I hope you're enjoying your heavenly Harley ride. I'll miss you!
