PEORIA - Kattie Nell Cage, 60, of Peoria passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
She was born Aug. 1, 1953, in Greenville, Miss., to Cleveland Cage and Mattie Caldwell-Fields. They both preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Jameion (Lana Hutton-Cage) of Round Lake, Ill., and Roosevelt of Milwaukee, Wis.; four grandchildren, Tim Hollins-Cage, Zion J. Cage, Abel Kyle Cage and Quianna Smith; five sisters, Christine Allen of Georgia, Margie Parker of Peoria, Dorothy (Eddie) McClain of Peoria, Marilyn Cage-McGee of Texas and Carolyn Miller of Mississippi; and three brothers, Melvin Caldwell of Louisiana, Eddie Cage of Peoria and Larry Cage of Mississippi.
She graduated from Greenville High School in 1971.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Greenville, Miss. She moved to Peoria, Ill., in 1980, after serving in the U.S. Air Force (veteran).
Kattie helped run the Boys and Girls Clubs at Warner and Harrison Homes in Peoria in the 1980s and was a surrogate mother for many children in the Peoria area. She also worked at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Kattie attended Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church at 603 W. Nebraska Ave., Peoria, where memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Family will receive friends one hour before services at the church for visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation Services in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
