Leatha Bain Obituary

MACOMB - Leatha E. Bain, 96, of Macomb, Ill., passed away at 12:05 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Bartlett, Kan., to Harve and Jessie Thornton Filson. She married Lawrence R. Bain on May 29, 1940. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1986.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ben, Gene, John and Lloyd Filson; and three sisters, Audrey Filson, Dorothy Filson and Lois Tempero.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Bain of Pocatello, Idaho, Kay Bain of Eagle Point, Ore., and Cheryl Bain of Medford, Ore.; four grandchildren, Mandy Vercauteren, Ashley Hastings, Kelly Graham and Britney Shull; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Labette County High School and attended Pittsburg Teachers College and Kansas State University. She taught in country schools in Kansas.

She moved to Illinois in 1943 and resided in Ply-mouth, Abingdon, Urbana and in Macomb since 1954.

She was a member of the Anna Parker Club; Chapter K, PEO; Macomb Country Club; and Wesley United Methodist Church.

She was an avid bridge player, gardener, reader, bird watcher and homemaker.

She will be remembered as a loving, caring and spirited wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Leatha Bain residence, 2200 N. Wigwam Hollow Road, Macomb, Ill. The Rev. Dr. Howard White will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Illinois University Foundation for the Bain Scholarship.

Private graveside ser- vices will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Monday, June 10, 2013. Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
