Lendell Dierker Obituary

FOREST CITY - Lendell H. Dierker, 72, of Forest City, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at 9:16 a.m. at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

Len was born on Nov. 10, 1940, in Pekin, Ill., to Otto Henry and Helena Marie (Imig) Dierker. He married Jane Ellen Whalen on Dec. 27, 1975, in Petersburg, Ill., and she survives.

Len is also survived by one son, Scott (Christine) Dierker of Pekin, Ill.; one daughter, Katie Dierker of Bettendorf, Iowa; one brother, Merrill Dierker of Petersburg, Ill.; one sister, Luellen (Bob) Betzelberger of San Jose, Ill.; three grandchildren, Max, Nora and Samuel Dierker of Pekin, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Len graduated from Forman High School in 1958 and later graduated from the University of Illinois in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.

Len served in the Army Reserves and taught fifth grade in the Forman School District. After returning to the family farm, Len farmed in the Forest City area for more than 50 years.

He served as a member of the Forman School Board for several years and was a member of the Manito-Forest City Optimist Club as well as the Mason County Farm Bureau.

Len was an active member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Ill., and was strongly committed to his faith, family and the farm.

A visitation for Len will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home in Manito, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Ill., where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until the time of service. Pastor Douglas Lightly will officiate. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito, Ill.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church and the Midwest Central FFA or to an organization of the donor's choice.
