PEORIA - Mary E. "Bette" Anderson, 92, of Peoria passed away at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
Bette was born on June 6, 1921, in Peoria to Leo and Loraine (Hybarger) Backes. She married Richard T. Anderson Sr. on March 8, 1943, in Sarasota, Fla. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1991.
She also was preceded in death by her son, Tom, on Jan. 14, 2001.
She is survived by her children, Susie Anderson Manly of Dallas, Ed Anderson of Carbondale, Colo., and Richard T. (Mary) Anderson Jr. of Peoria; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Eleanor (Richard) Swade of Berwyn, Ill.
Bette worked for Beechler's Service as an accountant for 20 years, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She was in charge of the lunch program for St. Bernard Catholic School for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Women's League. Bette was president of White-Ber-Oak Girl Scouts in 1961 and was president of Academy of Our Lady Women's Guild in 1966. She was a 40-year member of Timberlake Club, where she served on the board of governors as secretary from 1981 to 1983.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at St. Mark Catholic Church. Monsignor Brian Brownsey will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
